Pastor

Rev. Matthew Sorenson

Rev. Matthew Sorenson grew up in the parsonage as his father served as a pastor for congregations in Minnesota, Maryland, and Ohio.  Matt attended Lutheran High School East in Cleveland, OH and then the U.S. Naval Academy where he graduated with a degree in Aerospace Engineering.  He served in various positions on two U.S. Navy submarines.  After leaving the Navy he worked for Mallinckrodt Baker for ten years serving in various positions in Sales and Marketing.  In his last position he managed the worldwide laboratory chemicals business.  

Matt is a graduate of Concordia Theological Seminary, St. Catharines, Ontario and served as the pastor of Grace Lutheran Church in Niagara Falls, NY from 2009 to 2014.  He has served at St. John's in Farmville since 2014.  He has a particular passion for peacemaking or applying Biblical principles into the every day conflicts in our offices, homes, marriages and playgrounds so that God can be glorified as broken relationships are healed.  

Matt has been married to his wife, Beth, for over 30 years.  They have three adult children - Jeremy, Joshua, and Kaitlyn.  As a family they enjoy doing almost anything outside but in particular they enjoy going camping together.
